Block
A Block is the smallest visual unit in Performance Watcher’s interface. It represents a chart, table, or metric card that displays a specific analytical element.
Blocks are the interactive visual building blocks that power insights in Dashboards, Analyses, and the Overview.
Where Blocks Appear
Dashboard Module: Users choose from a library of block types (e.g., X-Y charts, Perfometer tables) and place them in sections to create custom dashboards.
Analysis Module: Blocks are predefined based on the instrument and access rights, showing key charts and tables like peer comparisons, rolling returns, and weather trends.
Overview Module: Key summaries (e.g., weather overview, return distributions, alert snapshots) are also shown in block format, though the layout is fixed.
Printed Reports: Reports are built from existing blocks, arranged to be printable.
Common Block Types
Block Type | Description |
---|---|
X-Y Chart | Shows return vs. volatility or relative risk |
Rolling Chart | Displays time series of return, risk, or weather |
Perfometer Table | Summarizes relative performance quality |
Flow Table | Shows cumulative and recent in/outflows |
Return Table | Lists returns, volatility, and alpha values |
Pie Chart | Visualizes distribution (by risk level, cluster, etc.) |
Block Characteristics
Dynamic: Pulls updated daily data, adjusts automatically to selected filters and timeframes.
Flexible: Can represent absolute or relative metrics, depending on configuration.
Contextual: Some blocks (e.g., Peer Group) require a single currency and risk level to activate.
Use Cases
Building dashboards with focused metrics for client presentations.
Reviewing risk trends in a compliance workflow.
